Be aware of your belongings
Prague is a very safe city. However, as with any big city, pickpockets do exist.
There’s no need to worry, though. All you have to do is remain aware of your belongings, especially when in packed areas.
Here are some good practices to follow to keep your belongings out of reach:
- Wear your bag towards your front, never your back
- Don’t carry valuables in your back pockets
- Avoid wearing purses and bags with no zippers
- If people walk up very close to you, bump into you -seemingly by accident-, or attempt to distract you, grab a hold of your belongings
- Most importantly, pay attention! Pickpockets normally choose easy targets like distracted people. If you keep a watchful eye, you’ll be more than safe and will avoid any inconvenience.
Final thoughts
Make time for leisurely strolls and unplanned activities!
We know that Prague has a lot to see and do, and that the temptation to try to see it all can be overwhelming. However, in our opinion, one of the best ways to discover a city (any city!), is to leave some of your time unplanned.
Step into a bar to grab a beer, go into that shop that piqued your interest, sit down on a bench near a plaza and watch the city unravel. Taking in a city’s mundanity is perhaps the best way to truly embrace it!
